Kilimanjaro 2012

11-21 October 2012

Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime? Conquer the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro, and take part in one of the most breathtaking and rewarding challenge events there is. Over the course of eleven days, you’ll see it all, from stunning mountain scenery to wild rainforest to barren landscapes.

Perfect for those after a tough challenge, you’ll climb to an altitude of 5895 metres above sea level, and be privy to some amazing views over the course of this stunning trek. You will be trekking the Marangu route, which will take you through luscious rainforest, vast open landscape and arctic desert. This truly is one of the world’s greatest outdoor challenges and you can take part whilst raising vital funds for research into skin disease and skin cancer.

The trek has specific acclimatisation days built into it, which mean you will have a much greater chance of completing the challenge and making it all the way to the very peak. Here’s a brief itinerary of what you’ll get up to over the eleven action-packed days:

DAY 1: Fly from London to Nairobi.

DAY 2: Fly from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro.

DAY 3: Start ascent from Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut. Total trekking time about 4.5 hours

DAY 6: Follow lower route to Kibo Hut through some spectacular flora and fauna. 7-8 hours

FAQs

Do I need to be superfit? You don't have to be a professional athlete, but being in good shape will definitely help. We recommend that you undertake training, trekking regularly on different terrain on consecutive days with some long distances in the weeks leading up to departure.

How can I raise the fundraising target? This is part of the challenge, though don't worry, we're here to help how we can on your fundraising efforts, whether its with family, friends or at work.

Am I too young or old to do it? The group will be a good mix  of ages most likely, though you have to be at least 18 to do this trek.

Where will we stay? During the trek you stay in shared huts with basic washing and toilet facilities. On the first and last night of the trek you stay in a hotel.
