Open Gardens 2010
Why saving lives is simply blooming marvellous…
You can help in the fight against skin cancer by putting your feet up, sitting back and relaxing in your garden. The idea is simple, hold a barbeque, party or just have some friends round, raise some money by collection and send it through to the BSF.
With summer in full swing, this is the perfect time to do something about the fact that skin cancer is now the most common form of cancer in the UK. Over 100,000 new cases of the disease are diagnosed every year in the UK, with 1847 people dying from malignant melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, in 2008 alone.
Your event in your back garden is more important than you might think. Simply decide what you want to do and how you’ll be raising money for us. Some people have charged a flat rate admission fee, others have charged for teas and cakes, whilst one family last year did an all you can eat barbeque for £10 a head!
The inspiration for Open Gardens came from one BSF supporter in the summer of 2009, who decided to hold a garden party and raised an incredible £900 in one day. All monies raised will go towards our Skin Cancer Appeal which raises money purely for skin cancer research. To find out more about this appeal, click here.
