Walk for Skin Manchester
Think you know Manchester? Then think again…Now in its fourth year in the city the Walk for Skin on the 23rd May 2010 promises to be something just that little bit more special. The BSF have awarded over £310,000 in the last few years to a number of research projects in Manchester, so holding a walk in this great city made a lot of sense.
So what’s different about this year’s walk?
The three-mile walk is fully guided, which means you’ll get an extremely knowledgeable guide who’ll tell you all about everything you’ll see and hear along the way. To make sure you all get involved, we’ve staggered the walk so it starts at 11.30am, 11.45am and 12pm, meaning you might even get a little lie-in on the day too!
Where does it go?
Starting at the Marriot Albert and Victoria hotel and finishing at the Lowry art gallery in Salford Quays, the route will take you along the main historical path between Manchester and Salford, both of which were at the forefront of the industrial revolution. Retrace the steps taken by countless others in history and find out how this region became Britain's fourth biggest port during the twentieth century. You’ll also get an exciting sneak peek as to how the area is being turned around and regenerated for the 21st century.
That’s not bad! It’s true. You’ll also get to enjoy a bit of culture at the end of the walk courtesy of the excellent Lowry Art Gallery. This gleaming beacon of modernity is home some spectacular art, performances and visual exhibitions, so keep those eyes peeled! Walkers will also be given a free drink there too!
