Fun Kids Radio

The BSF is on the radio! You bet! We’ve teamed up with Fun Kids Radio to take the battle against childhood skin diseases to the airwaves! 'Professor Hallux's guide to Skin' started airing on October 10th 2011, and is a series of 15 shows about the skin, its role and how to deal with skin disease.
What's Fun Kids?Fun Kids Radio is a digital and online radio station aimed at children and their parents. Our three-minute radio shows will continue through to summer 2012 as part of the station’s repeat schedule, so don’t worry if you miss one!
What will you be talking about?Topics to be covered include eczema and how to deal with it, psoriasis, living with skin disease as a child, vitiligo, and sun safety. Each show will present the subject in a fun and engaging way with the help of the station’s very own ‘Professor Hallux’ character to help educate children and their parents about the body’s largest organ. Importantly, the programmes also aim to reduce the stigma children often feel when they have a skin disease.

Why do a radio show?Skin disease is now the most common reason why people consult their GP for the initial visit in England and Wales, with eczema the most common skin disease in children affecting as many as one in ten in the UK. A recent snapshot survey conducted by the BSF highlighted the scale of the eczema problem, with a staggering nine out of ten dermatologists and dermatology nurses said they saw childhood eczema as the biggest problem facing paediatric dermatology in the UK.
Sounds good, how do I start listening?Listen out for Professor Hallux’s Guide to Skin at 6.30 pm in The Club, a show for parents and children after school and work. As the shows are aired, they'll be available to download through the Fun Kids website, as well as through iTunes here, where all 15 are available FREE to download.
