A family from Carlisle are taking part in the BUPA Great North Run in memory of the beloved father, a husband, and prominent dermatologist Dr Neil Cox.
Fiona Cox and five other members of her family - her two children David (21) and Kathy (19), her brother Robert and his two children Joe (23) and Emily (21) - will all be pounding the streets of Newcastle on 19th September to raise money for the BSF.
Dr Neil Cox worked tirelessly as a consultant dermatologist at Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary and the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven, but sadly died at the end of last year. Having dedicated much of his life to dermatology, the Cox’s family decided that raising money for the BSF seemed like a wonderful way to honour Neil’s memory and life’s work. . Fiona says: “It was actually my brother’s idea to do the Great North Run for a skin related charity, so we chose the BSF. Dermatology was Neil’s passion. He dedicated his life to achieving the highest standard of care for his patients and was an inspiration to trainee dermatologists with his encyclopaedic knowledge and enthusiasm.”
The family are aiming to raise £2100. So far they’ve raised a fantastic £450. Fiona says: “I am writing to the GP practices that used to refer cases to Neil. I’m sending them sponsorship forms to put at their reception desks and hope that patients will make donations that way. Fingers crossed we’ll reach our target.”
