Virgin London Marathon 2010 - shoes

Dermatologist to help raise £80,000 for the BSF!

Professor Chris Griffiths from Manchester is donning his running shoes and taking part in this year’s Virgin London Marathon - and aiming to raise £80,000 for the BSF in the process.

The consultant dermatologist at Salford Royal Hospital is looking to raise a penny for every one of the eight million people in the UK who live with a form of skin disease. If he manages to reach this ambitious target, he will have singlehandedly managed to smash the highest ever amount of money raised for the BSF.

“Skin disease is a lot more common than most people think, affecting up to  a quarter of the population at any one time and now accounts for more GP visits than any other group of diseases. A lot of chronic diseases, such as psoriasis are incurable, so a lot more research is needed,” he explains.

Despite falling in the recent bad weather which left him with a broken rib, Chris hasn’t let this stop him from training. He says: “I am fit for my age having trained for a triathlon last year. I'm a regular runner but have never competed in a proper marathon before. I’m aiming to finish the run in four hours and 20 minutes, so fingers crossed!”

We need your help to get Chris to that £80,000 target! To sponsor him, visit his Justgiving site here.
