Accessibility

This accessibility statement applies to www.britishskinfoundation.org.uk

This website is run by the British Skin Foundation. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We've also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • some interactive components (such as card sliders) may not be fully navigable with screen readers
  • some colour combinations used on the site may not meet contrast requirements and are being reviewed
  • the clinic finder map has limitations as it uses Google Maps, which may present accessibility challenges
  • there is no on-site method to change colours, contrast or fonts—you would need to use your browser or device settings

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the 'accessibility regulations'). Technical information about this website's accessibility

The British Skin Foundation is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Colour contrast Some colour combinations used on the website may not meet the minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.3 (Contrast Minimum). We are conducting a colour contrast audit and plan to address any issues by 01/12/26.

Interactive slider components Some interactive components such as card sliders and tabbed content do not have the correct ARIA roles (such as role="tablist" and aria-selected). This may make them difficult to navigate with screen readers. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value). We plan to fix this by 01/12/26.

Content that's not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they're not essential to providing our services. Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Live video We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

Maps The clinic finder uses Google Maps, which is a third-party service with its own accessibility limitations. We provide alternative contact methods for users who cannot use the map.

What we're doing to improve accessibility

We are committed to ongoing accessibility improvements. Our current priorities are:

  • completing a colour contrast audit and updating any non-compliant colour combinations
  • adding proper ARIA roles to interactive slider and tab components
  • continuing to test new content and features against WCAG 2.2 AA standards
