Golfers donate to skin cancer research

The British Skin Foundation would like to thank Brean Golf Club in Burnham-on-Sea for a generous donation of £10,101.77 to skin cancer research.

Captain’s Trevor Pitt, Lyn Bird and Director of Golf, Andrew March, presented the giant cheque to the BSF’s Fundraising Manager, Kelly Taylor at an awards evening on Friday 21^st February after a year of fundraising.

Trevor Pitt named the British Skin Foundation ‘Captain’s Charity of the Year 2019’ after several club members had unfortunately been diagnosed with skin cancer in recent times.

The funds were raised with a series of challenges. Trevor Pitt climbed the height of Everest (29,028 steps!) on gym stairclimbing machine, Andrew March completed 100 holes in a day and the club introduced a ‘Captain’s Penalty Hole.’

"We’re very grateful for the money raised by Brean Golf Club, it will go towards more top quality skin cancer research,” says Kelly Taylor.

She continues, “Even in the UK the UV rays can damage the skin, so it’s important for people who spend a lot of time outdoors to wear SPF year-round.”
