United by skin: 30 years of progress
For 30 years, the British Skin Foundation has worked to improve understanding of skin, skin disease and skin health. What began in the mid-1990s as an ambition to fund more dermatology research has grown into one of the UK’s leading voices in skin research and education, supporting discoveries that continue to improve lives today.

Advancing skin health for everyone
Over the past three decades, the British Skin Foundation has funded more than 500 research projects and distributed over £22 million to researchers across the UK and Ireland. Behind every project is something deeply human: a child struggling with eczema, someone living with psoriasis, a family navigating a rare skin condition, or a patient facing skin cancer.
Our funding has helped researchers make important breakthroughs in areas including eczema, psoriasis, skin cancer, rare genetic conditions and wound healing. Research supported by the BSF has transformed understanding of how skin diseases develop, improved treatments and opened the door to new ways of caring for skin health.
The impact of this work reaches far beyond individual studies. British Skin Foundation funding has supported hundreds of researchers throughout their careers, helping grow dermatology research across the UK and Ireland and ensuring new discoveries continue to move forward.
But while research remains at the heart of what we do, the work of the British Skin Foundation has also evolved.
We know that good skin health information matters more than ever. In a world where misinformation can spread quickly online, many people are left unsure who to trust when it comes to their skin. That is why one of our growing missions is to make expert, evidence-based skin health information easier for everyone to access and understand.
We are committed to helping people feel informed, supported and confident in caring for their skin. Whether someone is living with a skin condition, supporting a loved one, or simply looking for trusted advice about everyday skin health, we are here to help.
Our goal is not only to fund the future of dermatology research, but to raise awareness, challenge stigma and improve understanding of skin at every stage of life.
Because skin connects all of us.
Every day. Every age. Every experience.
Everyone - it’s who we’re here for.
As we mark 30 years of progress, we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported our work so far. Every donation helps fund vital research, improve understanding and bring hope to people affected by skin disease.
If you would like to help us continue this work for the next generation, please consider making a donation and being part of the future of skin health.
Because whatever our skin story may be, we are all united by skin.
